2010 Summmer Marine Science Saturdays Program
 
 
  • Are you between the ages of 7 and 11?
  • Do you like science and want to learn more while having fun too?
  • Do you like animals that live in the water?
  • Want to learn how to become a biologist?

If you answered yes to all of these questions then we want you to join us this summer!

The Summer Marine Science Saturday (SMSS) program will take place from June 26th until August 14th, 2010 (no class the weekend of July 4th) for a total of 7 classes. Each class is $12.50 or $70.00 for the entire summer ($5.00 pre non-refundable registration fee is required) and they can sign up at Petersburg Parks and Recreation. Children ages 7 to 11 are welcome to join. The maximum number of children per class is 15. Our interns will be running the classes from start to finish this year. Each class runs from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. each Saturday in the Activity Room at Petersburg Parks and Recreation. Each class has a different marine theme which focuses on learning about a particular local marine animal or environment in combination with a craft to bring home and games.

Scholarships

The PMMC will be awarding some scholarships to the SMSS. Please fill out the scholarship form (64K PDF file and return it to the PMMC. You can either fill in the form electronically and print it out or print out the form and fill it in by hand.

June 26th: Seals, Sea Lions, and Sea Otters oh my!

July 3rd: NO CLASS!

July 10th: Tidal Pools
8:00 am – 10:00 am
NOTE: Times are ealier than usual to experience low tide.

July 17th: Orca Whales and Other Dolphins
9 am- 11 am

July 24th: Sharks of Alaska
9 a.m. - 11 a.m.


July 31th: Your Planet
9 am- 11 am


August 7th: Humpback Whales!
9 a.m. - 11 a.m.


August 14th: Last Day of SMSS!
9 a.m. - 11 a.m.
